The Company
Kevin graduated from a 2 year, 2200 hour full time diploma course at The Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy in Vancouver, Canada in 2007. In the second year of his studies he worked as a shiatsu therapist at The Japan Shiatsu Clinic, a walk-in clinic affiliated with the college. He then returned to Tokyo, Japan where he resumed his studies of Kappo active method bodywork at the Seido Kai Kappo school, graduating in 2011. He came to Dublin, his father''s hometown, in May 2011 to open the Active Method Ireland clinic.
The style of shiatsu used at Active Method Ireland is the Namikoshi style, created by Tokujiro Namikoshi in the early part of the 20th century. It is the only style of shiatsu in Japan that is licensed by the Japanese health ministry. Namikoshi uses the thumbs, fingers and palms to press on up to 660 shiatsu points.
Kappo,(in English ''active method''),is also a traditional Japanese bodywork system that is somewhat similar to osteopathy. It has its roots in Japan`s feudal era when injured soldiers need to be returned to the battlefield as quickly as possible. Kappo uses a variety of techniques such as gentle adjustments, joint rotation, contraction and relaxation of muscle groups and soft tissue massage.
Both shiatsu and kappo active method bodywork are based on a knowledge of modern anatomy and physiology combined with traditional Japanese theory and technique. They can benefit a wide range of conditions such as frozen shoulder, whiplash, reduced range of joint motion, back pain and muscular tension and pain. Tension is released naturally from the body without any side effects with these time-tested methods.
